Seven Days in Texas
Wow,
It's been a week since I got here - and it feels like such a blur - mostly because so few of the days were punctuated by sleep in between.
Last Wednesday I woke up early in the back of my van and drove the remaining few hundred miles to Dallas where I met up with the rest of the cast in the storefront that is to be our new home. It was great to see the gang again and check out our new digs - a huge space - separated by old circus curtains into rooms. The shock came when I learned that the tent was not up yet and it was so hot that they had been working overnight. So just after getting in it was off for a quick bite then I was pulling my sledgehammer out of the van and pounding tent stakes into the concrete parking lot so we could raise the big top by hand.
We worked until 4am that night and until sun up the next night. There is so much work and so few of us to do it - not to mention that we are circus performers - not crew - so it took a bit longer. We missed opening night - but by Saturday we were all excited and I did my first bally to a nice sized tip that I was thrilled to see turn into the big top. Opening weekend went well and it can only get better. I've got sporadic access to email here buy I'd love to hear from you.
You Rock,
Tyler
